Last news from the petition

Our petition with which our project Tourism and Animal Welfare started has crossed the 33.000 mark and will be closed the following weekend. We thank all our supporters! The goal of this petition that accompanied us in the past four years has been to start a development towards a better future for animals at Caribbean holiday paradises by raising the awareness of tourists, informing them how many animals die because the hotel industry believes that they may disturb tourists, showing how tourists can change that and making the tourist industry realize that most of their customers want a humane treatment of animals at their holiday destinations. During this time our hotel guide “Animal-friendly hotels in the Caribbean” http://kreolischerhund.de/Hotels.en.php was developed, listing currently 65 hotels in 15 Caribbean states, among them also 22 hotels in Punta Cana the hotels of which were the main recipients of our petition. Punta Cana is today not only the largest All Inclusive center in the Caribbean but also the place with the most animal-friendly hotels that cooperate with animal welfare. Tourists have come to notice our hotel guide as well as our site “Animal welfare addresses in the Caribbean” http://www.kreolischerhund.de/TierschutzadressenKaribikVerzeichnis.en.php which lists animal welfare organizations on each Caribbean island and they follow our advice given on our intro site “Tourism and Animal welfare” http://kreolischerhund.de/TierschutzundTourismus.en.php The season 2016/17 is the first where no tourist has asked us for help for an animal AFTER returning home from their vacation – much too late! All have contacted us either still from their vacation spot or already before starting the journey. This is the beginning that we had hoped to reach with the petition. But a lot remains to be done! How will we continue? After the petition is closed, we will publish a list on our web site with the hotels that received our petition but refused to cooperate with us. This list shall be an aid for tourists, just like our hotel guide, when planning their vacation. We ask tourists to help us because we need their support! If you stay in a hotel that belongs either on this list or in our hotel guide, PLEASE NOTIFY US! Ask the hotel that you stay at to cooperate with the local animal welfare organization and to get the animals on the hotel ground and at the hotel beach spayed and neutered. Make it clear that your return to this hotel or its recommendation to others depends on that and that you will report about your experiences when you return back home to your friends and family as well as in the social networks. And please take the time to write a comment about the experiences you made at your holiday resort on tripadvisor Soon preparations for our new project will begin; our first voluntourism project that we will start together with old friends in the north of the Dominican Republic. Animal-loving tourists shall get the opportunity to get to know animal welfare at their holiday destination first-hand and be able to participate in it. Offers will include community outreach excursions, the visit of a shelter, horseback tours to the animals of isolated villages and volunteering at spay neuter clinics. They will see with their own eyes how their money helps animals and be able to take part in this. We hope to have more news soon. Stay tuned!
