Petition closing May 31st! 19.946 signatures right now! Wow! 10.000 were our goal at the beginning. Can we reach the 20.000 or even the 25.000? We are aiming at developing good cooperation with hotels that doesn't stop at spay&neuter in the future but continues with post-operative monitoring at accepted feeding places where the animals disturb no one and need no more to go around begging for food including medicare as it is done already at the cat cafés in St. Thomas http://www.kreolischerhund.de/Hotels.en.php#StThomas. This takes time to develop and to win the trust and confidence of the hotels that have so far simply been afraid that strays may disturb their guests - hard to understand from the view of an animal lover. I know, but it's a fact that, not all tourists are animal lovers but equally it's a fact that even those who aren't prefer a humane solution of the stray problem to poisoning. The petition has done and continues to do a tremendous amount of good raising the awareness of both tourists who weren't informed about what happens to animals at their vacation spots and of hotels showing them that their guests really do want animals treated humanely. But now something very disturbing is happening: Glemp Rich, our best campaigner to whom we owe very much, is convinced that the hotels that have started to work with us by having their cats spayed continue to poison dogs. This is not only totally wrong but also very dangerous to the good relations already established with hotels and to those still to be developed! In the whole world wherever such projects are successful it began with cats. Why? Because dogs hadn't been allowed on the premises up to this point, only if well-meaning but irresponsable tourists encouraged them, taking care of them while vacationing but leaving them behind when the vacations are over - those are the first victims of poisoning! Most dogs are "around" at the beaches, around the restaurants and of course near the garbage. Cats being able to hide everywhere are everywhere. When hotels start to cooperate with animal welfare by catching the cats on their premises to have them spayed, feeding them regularly and see how much guests appreciate this, their next cause of action is to call our partners to have their beach dogs spayed and neutered. This has been so in all hotels that our partners Rescatame work with and is so all over the world where such projects could established successfully and once this course has been established and it is obvious how much guests appreciate happy healthy dogs we are getting close to having accepted feeding places," dog restaurants" as well as "cat cafés" like in St. Thomas! . This is a process that takes time which is now in danger of getting seriously disturbed by the false accusation that hotels spaying their cats still poison dogs and by demanding too much, for instance donation cans at desks of hotels that are all by themselves already making huge much-needed material donations to our partner for dog spay & neuter clinics. We have had a huge success since the petiton was started: Many tourists have thanked me for informing them saying they had no idea before. Hotels are realizing that not the strays but their treatment disturbs their guests. The status Animal-friendly hotel has become something valuable that hotels want to get or maintain. 7 hotels in Punta Cana are working together with our partner RescátaMe already. None of them is poisoning dogs! Please let's stay on this road to success! Support the petition, I invite you all to the event https://www.facebook.com/events/975965425781184/ that wonderful friends have hosted for us to get 25.000 signatures before May 31st !
