Enforce Temperature Regulations in Homes

Enforce Temperature Regulations in Homes
The Issue
Living in a high-rise, newly built flat has become unbearable. The design flaws in these modern buildings are not meant to handle the escalating summer temperatures that surpass 37°C inside our homes. Despite running portable air conditioners and fans 24/7, the stifling heat is making me and my pets sick. Unfortunately, housing authorities claim there's nothing they can do.
This issue is not just isolated to my experience. Across the UK, many residents of new build homes and high-rise flats are suffering in extreme heat conditions. Not only new builds but all homes. These homes, constructed without proper consideration for the changing climate, trap heat and consequently create dangerous living environments. Homes reaching over 30°C indoors places children, the elderly, and pets at severe risk of heat-related illnesses.
According to the World Health Organization, living environments with temperatures above 30°C can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke. It is time we acknowledge the perilous conditions many UK residents face in the 'comfort' of their own homes.
To mitigate these life-threatening conditions, I am calling for the enactment of specific temperature regulation legislation in new builds across the UK. This would mandate developers to incorporate climate-resilient architectural designs and ensure homes have adequate ventilation and technology to maintain safer indoor temperatures, especially during heatwaves.
With climate change leading to an increase in the frequency and intensity of heatwaves, it is crucial to adapt our living spaces accordingly for public safety and wellbeing. This change requires governmental intervention, and strengthening building regulations is an actionable step.
I am also asking for residents who are suffering from the climate change and heat exhaustion that adequate ventilation is provided, heat reflector to their homes windows and have air conditioners units built in to their homes (the uk can no longer handle this heat) not only new builds but all homes private rented/ housing associations/council. As well as help towards the above for home owners. This will only continue to escalate every year and now is the time to get this in to place and sorted for those who are suffering.
Please sign this petition to demand the government introduce and enforce high temperature regulations for all new residential buildings. Protect our families, our pets, and ourselves from suffering the injustice of living in unbearable heat. Stand with us to push for a safer, healthier living environment for everyone.
