I still vividly remember the day when I witnessed a reckless driver blatantly ignore lowered railroad crossing gates. The audacity and sheer disregard for safety left me infuriated. This incident is not isolated, and it's high time we take serious action against such dangerous behavior on our roads.

Every year, hundreds of accidents occur at railroad crossings due to motorists ignoring signals. According to the Federal Railroad Administration, in 2019 alone, there were 2,216 collisions at highway-rail grade crossings in the United States resulting in over 800 injuries and 293 fatalities (Federal Railroad Administration). These statistics are alarming and highlight an urgent need for stricter penalties.

It is my firm belief that those who choose to ignore these warnings should face more than just fines; they should be held accountable with jail time, car impoundment, community service, and even suspension of their driver's license. We must send a clear message that endangering lives by ignoring railroad crossing signals will not be tolerated.
