I bring this petition from a deeply personal place, fueled by a sense of harrowing injustice. It's disconcerting to witness child predators and sexual offenders receiving what seems like preferential treatment in prisons, while in the free world women continue to live in fear. We can no longer sit on the sidelines and watch.

Approximately one in six women will be the victim of an attempted or completed rape in their lifetime (source: RAINN). Too often, the culprits of these heinous crimes are not held to account adequately. Offenders have been known to face minimal sentencing and even special benefits while serving time, which feels like an unconscionable mockery of justice.

The punishment for such egregious crimes demands severe magnification. We demand an implementation of stricter penalties for child predators and sexual offenders. The sentencing should truly reflect the severity of their actions. Not only should the minimum sentence be extended, but in some cases, physical castration should also be taken into consideration, which studies have shown to decrease re-offense rates (source: Journal of Criminal Justice).
