On Christmas Eve 2023, my service dog Dolly Anne, who was training for PTSD attacks and pressure therapy, was tragically killed. We were shopping for last-minute gifts when an emotional support animal (ESA), a pit bull, attacked her. Dolly suffered a collapsed lung and died a painful death. This heartbreaking incident has led me to seek change in the system to protect service animals like Dolly.

The laws surrounding ESAs are not as strict as those governing service animals. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), while service animals are trained to perform specific tasks for people with disabilities, ESAs do not require any specific training. This lack of regulation can lead to dangerous situations like what happened to Dolly.

I am advocating for stricter laws on service animals and limiting public access for ESAs, By doing so, we can ensure that incidents like the one that took Dolly's life do not happen again.

This is more than just about justice for my beloved companion; it's about ensuring safety in our public spaces and respecting the role of properly trained service dogs who provide invaluable assistance to individuals with disabilities, Like myself.
