Enforce Mandatory Drug Swab Tests for All Large Vehicle Operators

Enforce Mandatory Drug Swab Tests for All Large Vehicle Operators

The Issue

A devastating accident involving a London double-decker bus and a 9-year-old girl led to an irreplaceable family loss. A public bus, temporarily deviating from its course, mounted a sidewalk where a father and his two young children were casually riding to a gymnastics session. Tragically, the bus severely injured the little girl Ada . With the help from a few kind people that did stop and ensured that medical attention was called . The young woman that helped perform CPR and brought Ada back to life by recovering her heart beat gave the family time to say goodbye. As she battled for her life for two days before surrendering to her injuries in a hospital, surrounded by her brokenhearted family.

Investigations revealed the bus driver was under the influence of drugs at the time of the fatal accident.
This is a tragedy that could have been prevented.

According to the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction's data from 2019, the UK has one of the highest rates of drug driving, with 1 in 5 drivers testing positive for illicit substances.

We must therefore work to safeguard our streets and those who use them, especially innocent children. A necessary and crucial measure is the implementation of nationwide, mandatory drug-swab testing for all operators of large vehicles including buses, lorries, etc

Behind each statistic is an individual with a story cut short, a family grieving, or a community in pain. As a society, we have the power to change this narrative.

Large vehicle drivers have a responsibility to their passengers, other road users, pedestrians, and themselves. This includes refraining from drug use, which significantly impairs the ability to drive safely. We are advocating for mandatory drug swab tests for all large vehicle operators across the country. These tests will ensure that our streets are safer and that tragic accidents like the one that claimed the life of a treasured little girl are prevented.

Taking a step back is not an option. We need to move forward, enforce stricter regulations and hold drivers accountable for their actions. Let's ensure that this tragedy was not in vain. Let's make our roads safe again. Stand with us, sign the petition, and demand mandatory drug swab tests for all large vehicle operators.
