Enforce Honesty and Accountability within News Reporting

The Issue

Our society today is torn asunder, the cause - subjective media reporting. News items that carry personal spins and misinformation are tearing at the fabric of our shared heritage. This has a personal impact, and indeed affects us all, painting false pictures and nurturing unnecessary division. It is time to push for a return to objectivity in our news outlets.

Truth in reporting is not just a tagline, but a pillar of upholding democracy and building a resilient nation. Research by Pew Research Center revealed that 64% of American adults say fake news has caused "a great deal" of confusion about basic facts of current events. We are calling for legislation requiring all news media and TV stations to adhere to a stringent standard of reporting by reinstating a modernized version of the Fairness Doctrine. The objective is to provide a balanced and fair presentation of controversial issues of public importance. We want all media and TV stations to be held accountable for misleading the public.

The doctrine, introduced in 1949, maintained that the American people were the "beneficiaries of the 'public interest', and that broadcast licensing (i.e. channels) was given with the understanding that such channels would be used to deliver 'public interest' content."

It's time for transparency, time for fairness, time for truth. Join the fight and demand accountability in our media. Please sign this petition today.
