Enforce equal traffic laws for cyclists, the same as motorists in UK

As someone who drives through the bustling streets of London and other towns and city's daily, I am alarmed by the number of cyclists who blatantly disregard traffic rules. It saddens me to witness cyclists jumping red lights, ignoring pedestrian crossings, riding the wrong way down streets, and cycling through areas specifically designated for pedestrian use. Such actions not only endanger the cyclists themselves but also put the lives of pedestrians and other road users at risk.
In London, while motorists face stringent penalties for traffic violations including fines and points on their licenses, cyclists often evade accountability for similar offenses. This disparity is not only unfair but also dangerous. While the cycling community is an integral part of our city's transport eco-system, all road users must adhere to the same set of rules to ensure public safety.
According to the Department for Transport, in 2022 alone, there were 16,300 reported accidents involving cyclists in London, many of which resulted in serious injuries for the cyclists and pedestrians involved. Furthermore, a Transport for London report highlights that traffic signal breaches and reckless cycling behaviors contribute significantly to these numbers.
It's time to address this issue by insisting that cyclists be subjected to the same rules and consequences as motorists. By implementing fines for infractions such as jumping red lights, failing to give way to pedestrians, and cycling in prohibited areas, we can create a safer environment for everyone. The funds generated from these fines could be reinvested into improving cycling infrastructure, promoting safe cycling courses, and raising awareness among both cyclists and motorists about shared road responsibilities.
We need a comprehensive and enforceable system that holds all road users accountable while fostering respect and safety on our roads. London could establish mandatory registration for bicycles, similar to car registration, to effectively monitor cyclists' adherence to traffic laws.
