Enforce Bans on Inhumane Cat Declawing in Our City

The Issue

I dedicate my life to the welfare of animals. Working alongside several animal rescue groups, managing pet stores, and currently working myself in a veterinary office during my veterinary medicine studies—all point towards my devotion to the well-being of our furry friends. But an issue that continues to deeply affect me is the unnecessary declawing of cats in our city.

Declawing a cat is not a simple nail trim—it's a painful procedure that involves amputating the last bone of each digit, similar to removing human fingers at the last knuckle. These animals suffer long-term physical and psychological trauma post-surgery, often leading to behavioral changes such as biting and refusal to use a litter box.

According to the Humane Society of the United States, declawing a cat does more harm than good, providing minimal benefit to the owner while causing needless suffering to the pet. Multiple studies indicate that declawed cats are more likely to bite and have long-term physical complications, including lameness, behavioral problems, and chronic pain. Other countries and multiple U.S. states have already recognized the severity of this issue and have made this inhumane act illegal.

It's time for us to follow in their footsteps and implement stricter animal welfare laws, starting with a local ban on cat declawing. By doing so, we are not only standing up against animal cruelty but also fostering a more compassionate community that respects and protects all creatures, big and small.

Stand with me to make our city a safer place for our feline friends. Join the fight against cat declawing and sign this petition today. Together, we can make a difference.
