Enforce Balfour Road School Street with cameras

Enforce Balfour Road School Street with cameras

The Issue

This Petition is supported by Mr Gunn, the Head teacher at Balfour Primary and the other schools on the Varndean & Surrenden campus.

The Balfour Road School Street has been proven to work well and improve community safety and the environment when in operation but it is not sustainable to operate without enforcement cameras.

Without Cameras, the School Street is not sustainable due to the 500-600 volunteer hours required annually, at anti-social times and in all weathers. The size of the area also makes effective barrier coordination and management complex.

Local parents, staff and teachers petition Councillor Trevor Muten and colleagues at BHCC to expedite arrangements with central government and fund the installation of ANPR enforcement cameras in order to deliver a sustainable solution for School Streets for the benefit of all using using Brightons biggest educational campus.

Residents, Emergency Services and registered Blue badge holders should continue to receive exemptions. Consideration should also be made for residents carers and delivery of medicines within the affected area.
