Enforce a Zero-Tolerance Silence Zone around G.D. Somani School, Cuffe Parade

Enforce a Zero-Tolerance Silence Zone around G.D. Somani School, Cuffe Parade
The Issue
Enforce traffic and no-honking rules outside G.D. Somani School, Cuffe Parade
G.D. Somani School is located on G.D. Somani Road in Cuffe Parade, which is a residential stretch. Every school day, the road outside the school turns into a noisy, chaotic corridor - over 20 school buses entering and exiting, and, worst of all, long lines of private cars waiting to pick up and drop children, double-parked and stopping in driving lanes. This causes congestion well beyond the school frontage and constant honking in what should be a quiet neighbourhood and a silent zone.
We are not challenging the school’s presence. We are asking that the traffic and noise-control rules that already apply in Mumbai be enforced more strictly on this specific stretch outside the school.
Mumbai Traffic Police and BMC already have lawful powers to manage traffic, prevent obstruction on public roads, and restrict unnecessary honking near schools and other sensitive areas. We are simply requesting that those existing powers be used here.
We respectfully request:
- Timed enforcement during school hours on G.D. Somani Road: NO DOUBLE PARKING, NO WAITING in the live lane, and ACTION against unnecessary honking.
- Clear road markings and signage from BMC indicating no parking / no waiting during school timings.
- Coordination with the school Authorities work with the school to ensure student dispersal and vehicle movement are managed inside the premises, and that parents are explicitly instructed not to double-park or wait in the driving lanes outside.
This is a reasonable, resident-friendly and student-friendly solution. It improves safety for pedestrians (including the students), reduces noise for residents, and keeps the public road available for public use. The government can only do so much if you and I don’t stand up for what affects our neighbourhood today - and our children for years to come.
Please sign and share - with Cuffe Parade residents, Colaba/South Mumbai groups, and anyone in Mumbai who supports stricter school-zone enforcement - so we can make such areas peaceful and safe for everyone, everywhere.
Thank You
