The Issue

The Problem

Indian IT companies demand 60–90 days' notice from employees who resign — but when they hire, they want candidates who can join in under 30 days. Early release is rarely granted. So employees are stuck: they either resign without a new offer in hand and scramble to find a job in their last 30 days, or they stay trapped in a role with little raise, no growth, and no leverage.

The Double Standard

The same multinational companies operating in Germany, France, Italy, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and the US follow a maximum 4-week notice period in those countries — including in their own offices there.

In India, there's no law capping this. So they set the terms however benefits them.

What We're Asking For

  • A uniform 30-day notice period for all IT companies in India.
  • On the day an employee resigns, the manager provides a clear handover framework — documentation, knowledge transfer, and training for a replacement or existing team member — to be completed within that period.
  • This isn't about disruption. It's about giving companies a defined, fair process to transition work, while giving employees the freedom to move for better opportunities and compensation.

Why It Matters

IT professionals are among the largest individual taxpayers in India. A fair, standard notice period isn't just good for employees — it's good for companies (who retain talent through fair pay instead of a notice-period trap), good for the industry, and good for the economy.
