The rapid increase in commercially built-to-rent new constructions in Scotland has raised concerns. Privately rented homes have risen substantially from 11% to 15% from 2001 to 2018 according to Scotland's National Records (source: National Records of Scotland). We understand that housing is a necessity, and investment in it can drive real economic benefit. However, the current direction that this market takes infringes on the rights and interests of local communities and first-time home buyers. These stakeholders often find themselves edged out of the market by corporations with deep pockets, leading to an imbalance in the housing market.
