Dear Supporters, We started this petition just over a year ago but the battle to save the Enfield Road Green Belt fields is not yet won. We have not been in touch for a while but we have been working extremely hard behind the scenes. Unfortunately, the Enfield Road Green Belt fields – and much more of Enfield’s Green Belt – are now threatened in two ways. 1] The Government’s Education Funding Agency [EFA] will soon finalise its site search for the 8 form-entry Wren Academy Enfield. The Enfield Road fields remain the school’s first choice. We hope the EFA will select a brownfield site instead, but can do nothing more to influence their choice. If the Enfield Road site is selected, we will actively move against it and we will need your help! 2] London Borough of Enfield [LBE] is currently conducting Local Plan and Green Belt reviews, as they are required to comply with the National Policy Planning Framework [NPPF] revision. Although the first Local Plan consultation revealed that 82% of respondents do not want to build on the Green Belt, we expect certain areas to be de-designated because of housing and infrastructure demands. We will need your help to fight back against these changes! To understand why the Green Belt in Enfield and elsewhere is under so much unnecessary pressure, it’s worth reading the new report published by the London Green Belt Council [LGBC] and the Campaign to Protect Rural England [CPRE] Safer Under Us.
