#EndTheChase: Justice for Jakar Knott

#EndTheChase: Justice for Jakar Knott
The Issue
On May 15, the Warren Police Department initiated a high-speed chase that tragically ended in Eastside Detroit, resulting in the death of Jakar Knott. Thousands watched in person and live in horror as police pursued Jakar until he was violently ejected from his car.
This tragic event is yet another example of the systemic brutality faced by Black communities in Metro Detroit. Since the 1994 Crime Bill, Black youth—particularly Black men—have been disproportionately impacted by the criminal system, with many interactions beginning at traffic stops.
Jakar was a young Black man from Detroit with a loving family—a disabled mother, & Loving father, sister, brothers—and deep community ties. His death intensifies the fear and trauma felt by those who drive while Black. We stand in solidarity with Jakar's family and demand justice. We also stand for the countless of Black and Brown lives lost to State Sanctioned and Police Violence!
We call for the following actions:
- End All High-Speed Chases: The Warren Police Department must cease all high-speed chases, especially those that cross city lines and endanger lives.
- Invest in Community Resources: Redirect funds from policing to community programs that support Black youth and families, including mental health services, education, and economic opportunities.
- Demand Accountability and Transparency: Conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into Jakar Knott’s death, holding all involved officers accountable for their actions!
- Restitution for Jakars family and expected expense
