Ending Restroom Fatphobia in Government Buildings

Ending Restroom Fatphobia in Government Buildings
The Issue
Too many times, people like us have been labeled as 'fat,' 'obese,' or 'unhealthy.' It's time to challenge these demeaning labels and demand that our government accommodate all of its citizens. We earnestly call for the implementation of restrooms in every government building that are designed to accommodate these larger individuals. This initiative is more than just enhancing convenience; it is about dismantling structures that perpetuate fatphobia. A study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that 42.4% of U.S. adults were identified as obese in 2017-2018 (CDC, 2020). These individuals should not have to feel discomfort in public spaces, especially not in our government buildings, due to inadequately designed restrooms. Accommodation is a matter of respect and dignity. We hope to include wider toilet seats and stalls in all public restrooms in government buildings along with at least one sink with a seat in front of it. Join us as we push for this necessary change; sign the petition now to demand more inclusive and accommodating restrooms in all our government buildings.
