End Zoned Recess in RPS 205 Elementary Schools
The Issue
End Zoned Recess in RPS 205 Elementary Schools
Our Demand: End classroom-based recess zones and restore free, unstructured recess for all elementary students.
We, the parents and concerned community members, are asking Rockford Public Schools District 205 to eliminate classroom-based recess zones at all elementary schools.
Children should be allowed to socialize, play games, and interact with friends across classrooms during recess. Restricting children to assigned areas limits their social development, friendships, and opportunities to learn important interpersonal skills.
Recess should be a time for children to make choices, build friendships, resolve conflicts, and develop the social skills they need to succeed in life.
We are also asking the district to ensure that all elementary students receive the full 30 minutes of daily recess required under Illinois law.
We are asking for three things:
End classroom-based recess zones at all elementary schools.
Allow students to socialize and participate in activities with children from other classrooms.
Ensure every elementary student receives the full legally required 30 minutes of daily recess.
Our children deserve recess that allows them to be children, build friendships, and grow socially. It's time to put their needs first.
