End Unethical Euthanasia in South Carolina Animal Shelters
The Issue
This is a deeply personal issue for me, as I believe that animals, like humans, are innocent beings deserving of life. They should not be killed simply for existing. In South Carolina, our current policy endorses an unethical practice of euthanizing animals if they are not adopted within a certain period. This is wrong and needs to change.
Animals face harsh realities when they do not have a home. They are often subject to neglect and abuse, leading to physical and emotional suffering. When these animals end up in shelters, their fate becomes even more uncertain due to the state's euthanasia policy.
According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized each year nationwide (2019). While we don't have specific numbers for South Carolina, it's clear that this is part of a larger national issue that requires our immediate attention.
We propose an alternative solution - creating safe no-kill shelters funded by community members and organizations alike where these beautiful creatures can find refuge until they find their forever homes.
We need your help in making this vision a reality for all homeless pets in South Carolina. We urge you to sign this petition calling on our local government officials to outlaw unethical euthanasia practices and instead invest resources into creating no-kill shelters across the state.
