The Issue

Have you ever rented an entire Airbnb and later found yourself arguing with the host because someone visited you?
Maybe it was a friend. A family member. A date. A business associate.
Instead of enjoying your trip, you end up worrying about surprise fees, bad reviews, or whether you needed permission simply because someone stopped by.
This happens every day because Airbnb’s guest policies are unclear.
The platform gives guests only one option, “Add Guest,” even when someone is only visiting temporarily. There is no separate visitor policy, no consistent definition of a visitor versus an additional guest, and no standardized rules that apply across listings.
As a result, guests and hosts are left to interpret the rules themselves. The same situation can produce completely different outcomes depending on the host.
This leads to unnecessary disputes, inconsistent fees, wasted time with Airbnb Support, and negative reviews that could have been avoided.
We’re not asking Airbnb to weaken host protections. Hosts should still control occupancy limits, quiet hours, parties, and security.
We’re asking Airbnb to create one clear, standardized guest and visitor policy that applies across the platform.
Clear rules mean fewer disputes, fewer support cases, greater transparency, and a better experience for everyone.

If you’ve experienced this problem, or believe Airbnb should provide clear and consistent guest policies, please sign and share this petition.
