Why: SMC continues to spray toxic pesticides/ herbicides in our county parks, with our taxes, and without obvious, posted warnings. This is an unnecessary toxic risk to our health and environment which needs to end !

We've made some progress, but we need the Supervisors to direct the Parks staff to transition off pesticides and to prioritize our public health.

UPDATES:
Supervisor Mueller helped us accomplish 2 of our petition Asks:
1. He negotiated with SMC Parks to create an Annual Pesticide Use Report and
2. He created an ordinance to prevent third party landscape contractors from participating in pesticide rewards programs.

Public records and the Parks Annual Report show the County continually uses >41% concentrated glyphosate, and a list of other toxic herbicides containing PFAS (forever chemicals) and POEAs (3450x more toxic than glyphosate). We are asking for a moratorium on those specific highly toxic pesticides and to use alternative methods that are effective for all purposes.

-We believe that because we spoke up when the Pillar Point Bluffs were sprayed in 2025, that they did not spray there this year. We also believe that there would be more spraying if we were NOT speaking up. We need to use our voices for pollinators,  birds, wildlife and our watersheds!

-We are joining forces with NoPoisonCA  to fight the disturbing increase of pesticide spraying by public agencies throughout California in our forests, parks, open spaces, and highways.

-We continue to track Caltrans spraying on our state roads. In February, Hwy. 35 was broadcast sprayed for 3 miles with 4 toxic herbicides, including Glyphosate.
-Our requests for information or action from some public officials has been pretty lax or nonexistent, unfortunately.

This is another reason we NEED to use our voices and get their attention and action NOW !

Please let me know if you can join us at the meeting via zoom or in person by emailing: egadvocates@gmail.com
