End the Use of Chromebook Monitoring Extensions

The Issue

I am a student who, like many others, suffers from the annoying and perhaps unnecessary presence of monitoring extensions on my school-issued Chromebook. In particular, Blocksi and including GoGuardian have come across as invasive disruptions to my learning experience. These applications though ostensibly for safety, create an environment of distrusting supervision, which often impedes educational engagement.

Teachers and school administrations across the globe, yet in particular in the US, have started to rely on these extensions. As of 2018, GoGuardian boasts implementation in as many as 5,000 American schools. Moreover, a study from EdTech shows that over 50% of technological devices issued in American schools are Chromebooks, suggesting a significant swath of students are impacted by this scenario.

The question then arises: if schools do not trust students with unrestricted web access, why provide Chromebooks or similar devices at all? The heart of education should be encouraging independence, critical thinking, and responsible digital citizenship instead of blatant online surveillance. Is it not a contradiction, we may ask, when on one hand we advocate students to be independent, while on the other, monitor every move they make in cyberspace?

In light of the above, I urge fellow students, parents, educators, and concerned citizens to sign this petition. Let’s make a stand to end the use of Blocksi, GoGuardian, and similar extensions on school-provided devices, and foster an educational environment rooted in trust, independence and responsible internet usage. Sign today to give our pupils the freedom they need to grow.

And literally it isn't even that hard to bypass, it also blocks educational websites like, blooket, kahoot and other websites. And if you pin the extension you can know if the teacher is on it because it shows a "M" on it. If the tab is open and shes on another tab with blocksi open still shows the "M" if shes NOT on blocksi it shows NO "M" what so ever
