The Issue

As someone for whom the name of Jesus holds an immense spiritual and personal significance, I am profoundly disturbed by the ongoing trend in the film and television industries to use it as a term of expletive or slang. The name of Jesus is a sanctuary for over 30% of the world's population, a figure that amounts to roughly 2.3 billion Christians (source: Pew Research Centre). It represents love, sacrifice, and the ultimate symbol of their faith. Yet, it is this sacred name, unique in its singularity, that movie industries worldwide have reduced to an offensive swear word.

Besides creating an atmosphere of disrespect, this practice has potential to create a blatant disregard for the spiritual value and faith of millions around the globe. It is vital that we remember the importance of fostering a culture that values pluralism and respect for all religions and belief systems. No name denoting an entity considered sacred by any religious group should be used in a derogatory fashion.

I would like to call on movie industry professionals and organizations around the world to impose self-regulatory guidelines prohibiting the unnecessary and offensive use of religious figures or deities' names as cuss words.

No individual or community should feel their beliefs are disrespected, subject to mockery, or trivialized. By signing this petition, you are voicing your commitment to end this unacceptable practice and to promote respect and tolerance for all religions within the global entertainment industry.
