The Issue

Stray dogs across Canada, particularly in remote and Indigenous communities, face inhumane treatment through indiscriminate shooting as a method of population control. This outdated practice is cruel, ineffective, and does not address the root causes of overpopulation.

We call on the Government of Canada, CFIA, Indigenous Affairs, and provincial leaders to take immediate action by:

  • Banning inhumane culling practices, including the shooting of stray dogs.
  • Funding mobile veterinary clinics for spay/neuter and vaccination programs in underserved communities.
  • Supporting Indigenous-led animal welfare programs to create sustainable, community-driven solutions.
  • Mandating pet registration and microchipping to increase accountability and responsible pet ownership.
  • Increasing government enforcement and funding to protect animal welfare.

Stray dogs deserve compassion and effective solutions, not bullets. Humane programs in other regions have successfully reduced stray populations, improved public safety, and saved taxpayer money.

We demand that Canada prioritizes humane, ethical, and sustainable animal management policies NOW.
