For years, the people of Congo have been mining coltan and other minerals crucial to our everyday gadgets. Yet, they are not reaping the benefits of their labor. Instead, they are subjected to maltreatment and extreme human rights violations. Women and even young girls are victims of sexual violence - a horrifying reality that is too often overlooked.

The situation in Congo is dire. According to Human Rights Watch, armed groups in eastern Congo committed widespread abuses such as killings, sexual violence, abductions during 2020 (Human Rights Watch World Report 2021). This genocide must be stopped.

We call upon international organizations and governments worldwide to take immediate action against these atrocities. We urge them to impose sanctions on those responsible for these heinous crimes and provide support for the victims.
