I’m excited to share that Commissioner Christine Miller has personally responded to our petition and outreach. In her email, she acknowledged the urgency of our concerns about euthanasia-for-space at the Pet Resource Center and called our proposals for pet sanctuaries and a pet food pantry with volunteer delivery both compelling and aligned with county goals. Her office is already reaching out to Hillsborough County Pet Resources for more information, and we expect to hear back within the week. This is a huge step forward — proof that our voices are being heard! But we can’t stop now. The more signatures we gather, the stronger our case will be when commissioners consider how to use the remaining budget. Every signature shows public demand for humane, community-supported solutions.

📢 Please keep sharing this petition with friends, neighbors, and local groups. Together, we can end the euthanasia list in Hillsborough and create real change for our pets and families.

Thank you for standing up for them. 💜

— Christina

Dear Ms. Citsay,

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughtful and passionate message regarding Pet Resources and the future of animal care in Hillsborough County. I deeply value your voice and the voices of our residents. The fact that you took the time to reach out to me, personally, highlights your passion for advocacy and reflects the kind of engaged citizen you are that helps me shape meaningful policy.

I recognize the urgency of the concerns that you’ve raised, particularly around the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable pets and the need for innovative, community-supported solutions. Your proposals for a pilot pet sanctuary and a pet food pantry with volunteer delivery are both compelling and aligned with the goals of humane, fiscally responsible service delivery.

Our office is currently reaching out to Hillsborough County Pet Resources to gather more information and insight into their current initiatives and capacity. You can expect to hear back from either our office or the department within the week. If you do not receive a response during that time, please feel free to follow up with my aide Casaundra Marion directly. Her email is marionc@hcfl.gov (she is cc’d here) or you can give us a call at (813) 272-5740.

I remain committed to advocating for solutions that protect animal welfare, support families, and reflect the values of our community. Thank you again for your dedication and for being a voice for both our residents and the animals who depend on us.

I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon.

Sincerely,

Christine Miller

Hillsborough County Commissioner

District 4
