Hi everyone,

I wanted to update you on our push for windrow clearing in Ottawa. Over the past few weeks, I have been in discussions with the Councillor about the need for the City to take action on this issue. While our initial conversations were direct, the most recent responses have come from her assistant.

The good news: our concerns have been shared with city staff, and the issue of windrow clearing will be included in the Winter Maintenance Quality Standards (WMQS) discussions later this year. This means that our advocacy has had an impact—we’ve pushed the city to formally acknowledge the need to address windrows!

However, there are still uncertainties. While we’ve been told this issue will be discussed, there’s no guarantee it will lead to real change unless we keep the pressure on. There’s also no clear information yet on whether residents will have opportunities to provide input.

Next Steps & How You Can Help
Stay informed – The Councillor’s Facebook page and newsletter may provide updates, and the City of Ottawa offers email alerts on city matters here: https://forms.ottawa.ca/en/form/esubscriptions/signup-form
Keep the momentum going – The more people express support, the harder it will be for the city to ignore. Share the petition and encourage others to speak up.
I’ll continue following up – As we get closer to the WMQS discussions, I’ll push for clarity on whether windrow clearing is truly being considered and if public input will be allowed.
This is a step in the right direction, but it’s not the finish line. Let’s keep advocating to make sure windrow clearing becomes a real priority for the city.

Thanks for your support!
Eli
