End Students for Pro Life club at Allen High School

The Issue

Many of us are students at Allen High School who believe in basic human rights and autonomy. We acknowledge that everyone is entitled to their opinions and beliefs, but we also need to respect each other's space and mindset. The existence of a Pro-Life Club on our school premises doesn't adhere to these principles. Despite the fact that the club has managed to secure a sponsor, this does not necessarily mean that it advocates for a healthy and respectful environment.

It seems that this club mainly revolves around political motives and ignites controversial opinions among young minds. We understand that political awareness is crucial, yet it should not be encapsulated within an educational institution where focus should be on fostering a healthy learning environment. Above all, everyone, especially women, should have autonomy over their bodies and shouldn't feel pressurized by the predominant beliefs of such a club.

According to a study conducted by the Guttmacher Institute, for many women, deciding about an abortion isn't just about owning their bodies, but also their economic well-being and their existing or future families (Guttmacher Institute, 2018). It's about their right to decide when and if to have children. This personal choice should not be influenced by a school club's ideological leaning.

Given these circumstances, we request the school administration to reconsider the presence of this club at our school. We are not trying to stifle anyone's freedom of speech, but at the same time, we should respect the personal beliefs, emotions, and autonomy of our peers. Let's strive for a school environment that focuses on education, respect, and a broad spectrum of ideas, instead of promoting a single, divisive ideology. Please sign this petition to support us in ensuring that our school remains a place of respect and learning for all.
