Petition to End SBS Partnership with Qatar State Media

We, the undersigned, demand that SBS immediately cease its unethical partnership with Al Jazeera. Al Jazeera is funded and controlled by the Qatari regime, a known supporter of terrorist organisations. In airing Al Jazeera programming, SBS is complicit in spreading propaganda from a terrorism-financing government.

Australians deserve independent news coverage, free from foreign influence. Qatar has backed dangerous Islamist groups that have caused death and destruction across the Middle East and beyond. According to the U.S. State Department, Qatar permits terror financing within its borders.

Numerous nations have accused Qatar of funding terrorist groups including Hamas, Hezbollah, Al-Qaeda and ISIS.

Just this October, Al Jazeera journalists were caught filming and participating in a Hamas terror attack on Israeli citizens. Take Ismail Abu Omar, who joined Hamas terrorists on October 7 and filmed the atrocities, was hit north of Rafah a few minutes after reporting live on the Al Jazeera network.

The ABC, Australia's primary public broadcaster, has now quietly cut ties with Al Jazeera. Why not SBS?

Yet Al Jazeera frequently provides sympathetic coverage to extremists supported by Qatar. In partnering with Al Jazeera, SBS is allowing Qatari state propaganda to enter Australian homes through programs like one of our most watched news shows, SBS World News or simply unbated horrific content .

We are appalled that SBS would help whitewash Qatar's image in the lead-up to the 2022 World Cup. Qatar has an abysmal human rights record and mistreats migrant workers. SBS's deal downplays Qatar's corruption and abuse while legitimising its support of terrorism.

Australians deserve news coverage free of foreign influence. We call on SBS to show moral leadership by rejecting Qatar's money and manipulation. Please stand up for journalistic integrity over the mouthpiece of terrorist sympathisers, and end this unethical partnership now.

The Australian people need media that serves citizens' interests, not Qatar's agenda. We ask SBS management to listen to their journalistic conscience and make the ethical choice. Terminate ties with Qatar's state propagnda outlet immediately, for the sake of integrity in Australian media.
