End Sales of Live Animals in Pet Shops

End Sales of Live Animals in Pet Shops
The Issue
As an animal lover, I've witnessed the chilling reality of the conditions animals face in pet shops, especially those stores like Pets at Home. The sight of fragile animals crammed into minuscule glass cages, subject to hot lamps all day, unnerved by constant barking dogs and noisy children, lives in my memory.
To me, these are lives, they deserve better; they shouldn't be treated as commodities for impulsive grabs off a shelf.
The staff, often lacking the proper training, often give advice that is detrimental to these creatures' wellbeing. An evident example is Pets at Home's sale of undersized cages and treats known to cause Stasis/harm in rabbits and other small animals. Yet, this isn't an anomaly exclusive to Pets at Home. I can recall an aquatics business that sells small animals in an environment far too humid and excessively hot for their safety.
Caring for animals is a delicate and long term task that should be left to those adequately prepared for it. Small animals are bought as gifts for children who are not suitable for arranging the correct care. These poor beings then live in subpar settings until they die or are thrown out like trash. Rescues are full to the brim because of idiotic purchases!
Professional breeders are equipped to cater to the animals' welfare and safe breeding. Thus, it is high time that all stores cease from selling small animals.
Let us give voice to the voiceless, and work towards a future where the welfare of animals isn't compromised for profit. Please sign the petition to effect this desperately needed change. Together, let's end the sales of live animals in pet shops.
