The Issue

I, Grace Clay, a 16-year-old female student at Babcock High School, am deeply saddened and disturbed by the racial discrimination, bullying, and assault that I have personally experienced from my teammates and peers. It is with great urgency that I call for the removal of the leaders in charge who have allowed such behavior to persist within our school community.

My story is not an isolated incident; it represents just one of many racial discrimination events occurring at Babcock High School. This pervasive issue has created an environment where students like myself are subjected to constant harassment and mistreatment based solely on our race or ethnicity.

The lack of action taken by Principal Amanda Sanford and Coach Paulette Butterfield has only perpetuated this cycle of discrimination. Their failure to address these incidents effectively demonstrates a disregard for the safety and well-being of students like me. As leaders entrusted with our education and welfare, they have a responsibility to create an inclusive environment that fosters respect for all individuals.

Racial discrimination not only affects the victims directly involved but also has long-lasting negative impacts on their mental health, academic performance, and overall well-being. It creates divisions within our school community instead of promoting unity among students from diverse backgrounds.

To bring about meaningful change at Babcock High School, we demand:

1. The immediate removal of Principal Amanda Sanford and Coach Paulette Butterfield from their positions due to their failure in addressing racial discrimination incidents.

2. Discipline for all students involved including removal from the Volleyball Team and suspension/ expulsion from school.

3. Public Apology from Babcock High School Administration and involved parties.

4. The implementation of comprehensive anti-discrimination policies that explicitly condemn racism in all its forms.

5. Mandatory training programs for staff members aimed at fostering cultural sensitivity, awareness, and inclusivity.

6. The establishment of a confidential reporting system where students can safely report instances of racial discrimination without fear of retaliation.

7. Regular monitoring by an independent body or organization to ensure accountability in addressing racial discrimination cases promptly and effectively.

It is crucial to note that these demands are not only for my benefit but for the well-being of all students at Babcock High School. By taking decisive action against racial discrimination, we can create an environment where every student feels safe, respected, and valued.

Together, let us stand against racial discrimination at Babcock High School and work towards a future where no student has to endure the pain and suffering caused by such prejudice. Sign this petition to support our cause and demand justice for all victims of racial discrimination within our school community.
