Fort Wayne's Electric Works, in partnership with Hooley Farms, offers free pony rides and farm animal "encounters."

While this practice might seem innocent or even idyllic on the surface, you can't ignore the harsh reality. According to PETA, "ponies can suffer from hoof ailments, saddle sores, and mouth and teeth problems, resulting from ill-fitting or carelessly rigged tackle."

And oftentimes, ponies are forced to spend hours working in the scorching heat without proper hydration, to prevent unsightly “accidents.” 

Furthermore, these "encounters" are billed as a form of education, when in reality they're a form of entertainment. 

This is not a good look for Fort Wayne. We can do better. Let's urge Electric Works to consider other kid-friendly activities that don't harm or exploit animals.
