100’s of Portland, Maine Students Demand ICE Release Their Classmates

Portland, Maine—Students from three high schools staged a walkout, gathered in the city center, and marched on City Hall. With speeches, poetry, and song they spoke about the siblings in ICE detention— J. the Deering High School soccer player and E. the artist and writer. They demanded ICE return these friends, teammates, and classmates and end this assault on the immigrant community.

Students called out the racism, lies, and injustice of ICE and called on public officials to DO SOMETHING to stop the unjust grab of students and families.

Community leaders Dr. Abdullahi Ahmed and Representative Deqa Dhalac voiced their pride for the student’s demand for fairness, freedom, and justice.
