The Issue

Monetary institutions hold a significant amount of trust in society, aiding us in investments, saving our earnings, and providing financial assistance when needed. Yet, it is increasingly apparent that some of these reputable institutions are resorting to misleading sales tactics which end up harming, rather than aiding, their loyal customers. These questionable practices range from pushing unnecessary products to customers, to obfuscating terms and conditions leading to unforeseen fees and charges.

A study by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) in the United States found that over half (53%) of bank customers are likely to be confused by bank terms and conditions, which can inadvertently lead to financial strain. Consumers are often targeted with sophisticated sales tactics which are hard to understand and even harder to navigate. The CFPB also estimates that unfair and deceptive banking practices cost the average American household approximately $290 every year.

We urge lawmakers and regulatory bodies to enforce stricter rules that protect consumers from such unethical practices. We demand transparency, clarity and an end to these misleading sales tactics. It's high time our trusted institutions focused on aiding the public, rather than exploiting them.

Please, join us in this fight for consumer clarity and fairness in banking. Sign the petition to end misleading sales practices at banks.
