Did you know there are currently 202 ALPRs on the Deflock.me map? And the number of ALPRs are increasing by the month. To have the most impact and be more effective, we've updated this petition to include Tucson, South Tucson, Oro Valley, Marana, and all of Pima County.
Flock is not the only mass surveillance company! We've also included language to include other vendors of mass surveillance including: Motorola/Vigilant, Genetec, Leonardo/ELSAG, Neology, Axon, etc.
Efforts to expand our reach in 2026. In September 2025, Deflock Tucson formed as a coalition of groups from the University of Arizona. Our efforts concentrated on raising awareness and pressuring the University of Arizona to cancel their contract with Flock. Though records requests, we found out they spent $1,043,520 so far on ALPRs.
In solidarity, we celebrated with Deflock groups in Arizona! Because of people power, Flock contracts were canceled in Sedona and Flagstaff, AZ. City council members buckled under pressure from local residents.
South Tucson City Council: challenge accepted. In November, we hoped that South Tucson City Council would set a precedent in Pima County to cancel their Flock contract, yet they backtracked and decided to continue. In the coming months, residents of South Tucson need to attend city council meetings and make public comments (every other Tuesday) to end the contract with Flock.
Deflock Tucson: now at an event near you! In December, Deflock Tucson finished the year strong with a table at the Winter Resistance Fair. We plan to do more events throughout 2026 and hope to see you at the upcoming Tucson Peace Fair and Music Festival on Saturday, Feb 28 11am - 4pm at Reid Park.
Small victory with some followups. In January 2026, Pima County Board of Supervisors decided unanimously not to renew their contract with Axon. Some of the board said they voted "no" to seek out competitive bidding, add drones to the surveillance package, and had concerns that AI will take police jobs away.
We're gaining traction. Since Sep 2025, the petition has gained 671 signatures! Our website traffic is just shy of 2,300 total visits with 200+ more worldwide. And 707 followers on Instagram.
Public comments significantly impact the results of continuing or canceling mass surveillance contracts. This year we encourage you to attend and make public comments at city council and board of supervisors meetings in your area.
Join us in fighting for a surveillance-free Tucson and Pima County. Our coalition continues to grow as we take on more aggressive goals and strategies. If you're interested in joining, please reach out via email at deflocktucson@pm.me.
Thank you for your support. Let's end ALPR mass surveillance in Pima County this year!
