TALE Townsville Against Live Export
Apr 18, 2025

Last year the Labor government passed legislation to phase-out live sheep exports by sea by 1 May 2028, but not the export of cattle like those in the photo who were exported from Townsville to Indonesia last month. The current Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese has stated that the Labor party would not support a ban on live cattle exports. Now with an election to be held on 3 May 2025, even the ban on live sheep exports is at risk. Peter Dutton, leader of the Liberal National (LNP) Coalition, is threatening to overturn the legislation if elected to government and allow sheep exports to the Middle East to continue.

The animals don't get to vote, but you do.  To help you decide how to allocate your preferences the Alliance for Animals has prepared an Election Scorecard showing where the candidates and parties stand on animal welfare. You can find the scorecard on their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/AustralianAllianceforAnimals/

Please remember that with Australia's preferential voting system you decide to which candidate or party your vote will flow if your first choice is not successful. You do not have to follow the How to Vote cards being handed out at polling booths. See https://www.aec.gov.au/learn/preferential-voting.htm  and/or https://www.chickennation.com/voting/
