Petition updateEnd live export from TownsvilleHELP MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE FOR ALL ANIMALS ON WORLD ANIMAL DAY
TALE Townsville Against Live Export
Oct 2, 2024

This Friday is World Animal Day a global event held each year on 4 October, the feast day of St Francis of Assisi the patron saint of animals, which unites the animal welfare movement into a global force to make the world a better place for all animals.  The theme for this year’s World Animal Day is “The world is their home too.”

Please find time on World Animal Day to send a message to the Prime Minister https://www.pm.gov.au/contact#:~:text=You%20can%20contact%20the%20Prime%20Minister%20using reminding him that all animals suffer when exported live for slaughter offshore and urging him to help make the world a better place for all animals by ending ALL live animal exports from Australia.

During the 2023-2024 financial year 182,844 animals were exported from Townsville for slaughter offshore, making our city Australia’s second largest export port for cattle. Legislation has been passed to phase out live sheep exports by sea by 1 May 2028, but the current federal government has no plans to end live exports of buffalo, cattle and goats for slaughter offshore.
