TALE Townsville Against Live Export
Jan 23, 2024

Last year 161,656 cattle were exported from the Port of Townsville onboard 49 ships.  Two ships loaded with cattle have already left this year for Vietnam, a country with a poor reputation for animal welfare. In 2023 Vietnam was the main destination for cattle exported from Townsville with 82,619 animals being shipped there, 75,982 animals were exported Indonesia, 1,674 to Thailand and 1,381 to Sarawak. Please let Murray Watt know you want this cruel trade to end. https://minister.agriculture.gov.au/watt/contact and remind him that you expect Labor to honour their commitment to end the export of live sheep by legislating a date for the trade to end during this term of government. If Labor is not re-elected for a second term the opposition won't stop the cruelty. Many exporters seem to have little regard for animal welfare with WA exporters recently sending cattle and sheep into a war zone onboard the MV Bahijah. The ship has now been ordered to return to Australia but will need to obtain sufficient fodder for the return trip.  Photo shows some of the animals who left for Vietnam onboard the last ship for 2023, the MV Ocean Ute on 19/12/23.
