Growing up, I always dreamt of strutting down the runway, dazzling audiences with my unique style and charisma. But as I reached adulthood, I was confronted with a reality I had to face: being 4’6", considerably shorter than the conventional standard set by modeling agencies. It's perplexing and, frankly, disheartening. I look 4’8", yet still, the height discrimination looms large over those of us who do not fit the traditional mold.
The fashion industry has long celebrated a "one size fits all" approach, especially regarding the stature of models. This has sidelined countless deserving individuals who possess immense talent and flair. But why should height dictate the ability to captivate an audience or embody the heartbeat of a designer's vision?
Statistics show that the average height of women worldwide is approximately 5’3", which is closer to my height than the industry standard of 5’9" to 6’0". Yet, these standards seem to be rigidly imposed without consideration of the broader spectrum of beauty that exists beyond height. By changing these standards, we could foster a fashion environment that truly reflects the world's diversity.
