Petition updatePrevent Hospitals from Seeking Guardianship As Means 2 Override Patient RightsDay 64 - Another Hospitalization and Refusal of Care

My sister Anastasia was readmitted to the hospital in the wee hours of Thursday morning with severe sepsis, pneumonia, the still broken hip, and severe anemia. Anyone of these issues is serious but when you combine them and guardians who refuse to provide anything but "comfort" care i.e. large and constant doses of pain killers, to a non-terminal, alert and aware patient (when not drugged senseless); and when you refuse to provide that patient with nutrition to aid the antibiotics and give the body time to fight the sepsis you are in my opinion allegedly intentionally setting the patient up for death. It has been 64 days since my sister Anastasia was abducted by Inova Fairfax hospital and their designated guardians. It is unconscionable that Inova and guardians Labowitz and Heishman still have custody of my sister. One of the things Chief Medical Officer Scott Betzelos specifically told Virginia Delegate Robert Marshall was the purpose of "the guardianship was only to get Anastasia discharged from their hospital." Based upon the fact that they still have custody of my sister there is only one conclusion I can come to and that is Scott Betzelos has a mendacious spirit and is not a man of his word. I could have come straight out and called Betzelos a liar but that word doesn't quite cover what he has done. In the federal world intentionally telling falsehoods to a federal official or member of Congress will make you wish they had just shot you instead. Betzelos' lack of personal integrity aside, there appears to be an underlying theme or culture of ignoring and disrespecting patients rights civil or otherwise at Inova; but more on this later. My sister Anastasia does not want to die she wants to live. I know this for an absolute fact yet she has not been given nutrition for the last three days nor have I seen that they have given her a much needed blood transfusion. After 9/11 (I worked in DC at the time) my sister and I became very close, speaking to each other in daily phone calls, sometimes more than once day. During these conversations we talked about many things, our daily lives, problems we had in the past, DC traffic, our Catholic faith and our wants and desires. When she first made me her POA in 2002 for all of her affairs health included, I asked her what her wishes were just as I had when our parents had made me their POA and successor trustee of their trust. So to have a hospital corporation and two strangers come in and take her, and pretentiously decide "she wouldn't want to live this way" and then refuse to treat her or a severely broken hip that they caused - is what is best for her? To come to such a conclusion when they have not had a single conversation with her, have not laughed with her, witnessed her sense of humor, her occasional obstinance, or her mischievous side is not only seriously unethically wrong, it is the most egregious predatory behavior perpetrated toward the most vulnerable among us, the disabled and the elderly. (An Article Written About Anastasia https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/the-way-this-woman-is-being-treated-by-her-nursing-home-shows-how-much-our ) It is truly sad and somewhat pathetic that an individuals ego can be so fragile and shallow they feel it absolutely necessary to go on a vendetta and cause irreparable harm to another human being because a person dare have the audacity to disagree or question the great and powerful Oz that is Inova. Because someone dared express an opinion contrary to the "we are a level 1 trauma center therefore we know it all" Regardless of the fact those that are expressing the opinion have lived inside those bodies all their lives and know when something is off or not right. But instead of stopping to think "okay, maybe they could be right" and acting accordingly, the ego kicks in and someone gets their undies in a knot; and in their quest to "I'll show them" withhold treatment causing a drastic decline in my sister Anastasia's health. So Dr. Betzelos, you have a short and narrow window to do the right thing before this goes so far Anastasia cannot be brought back. Show the Commonwealth that you are the man you claim to be, because no man who wears a purple paisley tie can be all bad.
