Until recently FGM was known to be practiced only among the Bohra Community. It has come to light now that there are several other communities in Kerala who also practice FGM. FGM is a secret practice and the girl child / woman who is subject to it is sworn to silence about it. It has been proven that FGM has physical, psychological and sexual implications for the women. It is a clear violation of human rights of women and the need of the hour is to take immediate steps to stop this practice. We need the support of civil society to condemn and oppose this pracrtice in India.
