End Excessive Sentencing of our Youth in Las Vegas,Nevada

End Excessive Sentencing of our Youth in Las Vegas,Nevada
The Issue
My son Davon Lyons was only 18 years old when he made a poor decision that changed his life forever. He, like many of our youth in Las Vegas, Nevada was given an excessively harsh sentence by our " justice system". This is not an isolated incident but a systemic issue that has plagued our community for far too long. It's time to stop the abuse of power and the unequal treatment of our young men and women.
In Las Vegas Nevada, racial disparities in sentencing are starkly evident. According to the Sentencing Project, black individuals are incarcerated at a rate 5 times higher than their white counterparts (Sentencing Project). This disparity is not reflective of crime rates but rather an indication of systemic bias within our justice system.
Our children deserve better than this. They deserve a justice system that treats them fairly, one that understands the importance of second chances instead of handing out unnecessarily severe sentences which can ruin their lives forever.
We must push for change now to ensure a fairer future for all youth irrespective of their race or ethnicity. We call on lawmakers in Las Vegas, Nevada to review sentencing guidelines with an aim towards eliminating racial bias and promoting rehabilitation over punishment.
Please sign this petition today to help end excessive sentencing for black and brown youth in Las Vegas, Nevada. NO DONATIONS NEEDED AT THIS TIME...SIGNATURES ONLY!
