End Economic Hardship and Restore Men's Rights: Reform Child Support

The Issue

I, as a victim of domestic violence, am deeply concerned about the flaws and injustices within the current child support system. It is time to address these issues and create a fair and equal platform for fathers in supporting their children.

During my divorce and custody proceedings, I experienced firsthand, the double victimization that many fathers face in this system. My ex-spouse, who was the perpetrator of violence against both myself and my daughter, left us physically and mentally scarred. Despite providing undeniable evidence to the court of my ex-spouse's abusive behavior, I was shocked to find myself coerced into paying child support to my abuser or face imprisonment if I didn’t pay.

This unjust practice not only perpetuates economic duress but also undermines the well-being of innocent children caught in these circumstances. It is time for change.

The current child support system fails to consider individual circumstances adequately. Fathers across our nation are being forced into poverty due to crippling financial obligations imposed upon them without proper evaluation or consideration of their ability to pay. While also allowing mothers, to have no obligations in supporting their children. The current child support system forces fathers to pay child support, yet receive no access to the support, and they must still support their children and their home behind the scenes. The child support system does not support fathers and simply places them in poverty under economic duress, without having access to the financials to support their children.

It is crucial that we address these flaws head-on by advocating for reform within the child support system:

1. Fair Evaluation: Implement a fair evaluation process that takes into account both parents' financial situations when determining child support obligations.

2. Shared Parenting: Promote shared parenting arrangements as default options unless proven detrimental to a child's well-being.

3. Income Adjustments: Consider income fluctuations or job loss when recalculating child support payments.

4. Transparency & Accountability: Establish clear guidelines on how funds are allocated towards children's needs while ensuring accountability from custodial parents.
Source: National Conference of State Legislatures (ncsl.org)

5. Allowing a system similar to SNAP benefits, that allows both parents access to support of their child support funds. While allowing for both parents to equally support their children financially instead of just obligating one parent.

Many fathers are also victims of abuse and often times victims of the flawed system of Child Support Enforcement. These fathers are dreadfully affected and crippled by the nature of child support by also having to support themselves and their household without further support or access to the funds used to support their children. Often times fathers who are victims are placed under duress and coercion, and experience double-victimization from both the court and their batterers by allowing batterers control over finances of these fathers. This is causing irreparable harm to hundreds of thousands of fathers across the nation.

A man’s rights to access the financial support of their children is currently at risk, placing many fathers into undue hardship and economic duress at the expense of the government, by the Child Support System illegally sweeping bank accounts, and withholding finances from employers without consent of the parents to do so. This system is flawed, and undermines the American people. This system has forced men all over the nation to abandon their trust in this governmental system, while the Child Support system surreptitiously and unjustly robs many innocent fathers across the nation.

We, concerned citizens and advocates for equality and justice, stand united in our call to defund the current child support system. This system has proven to be a source of undue hardship and economic duress for fathers who are actively involved in their children's lives. It is time to address the flaws within this tyrannical government program that disproportionately affects fathers and undermines their ability to provide for their children when their children are in their custody.

The current child support system not only places an unfair burden on fathers but also violates their right to privacy in financial matters. By demanding detailed information about income, assets, and expenses, it breaches the constitutional 4th amendment rights that protect individuals from unreasonable searches and seizures of their finances.

Here are some key reasons why we believe it is crucial to further defund child support:

1. Economic Hardship: The current system often imposes exorbitant financial obligations on fathers without considering individual circumstances or ability to pay. This leads many hardworking dads into a cycle of debt, poverty, or even incarceration.

2. Lack of Accountability: The child support system lacks transparency and accountability mechanisms that ensure funds are allocated appropriately for the well-being of children. There have been numerous cases where funds intended for children's needs have been misused or mismanaged by parents.

3. Discrimination against Fathers: Research shows that courts tend to favor mothers over fathers when determining custody arrangements and setting child support amounts. This bias perpetuates gender inequality by assuming mothers are always better caregivers while disregarding a father's genuine commitment towards his children.

4. Negative Impact on Father-Child Relationships: Excessive financial burdens imposed by the child support system can strain relationships between fathers and their children due to limited resources available during visitation periods or shared custody arrangements.

5. Inefficiency & Ineffectiveness: Despite its significant costs, studies suggest that the current child support system fails to achieve its intended goals. The funds collected often do not reach the children, and enforcement mechanisms can be harsh and counterproductive.

We urge lawmakers, policymakers, and relevant authorities to take immediate action by defunding child support and implementing a fairer system that considers the best interests of both parents and children. This new approach should prioritize shared parenting arrangements, individual circumstances, income equality between parents, and accountability in fund allocation.

By addressing these crucial aspects, we can create a child support system that truly serves the best interests of children while providing fathers with fair and equal opportunities to receive support of their families, from mothers who are just as responsible for the support of their children.

Let us come together and demand change. Sign this petition to urge lawmakers, policymakers, and relevant authorities to reform the child support system, ensuring fairness, equality, and justice for all fathers involved.

Together, we can make a difference and create a future where fathers are not unjustly burdened by economic duress but instead empowering mothers to play an active role in the support of their children's lives.

Now is the time for Men to take a stand to CHANGE a system that we were born into without our consent.
