Dear Supporter,

We would like to address some recent misinterpretations in the media regarding the Justice for Animals Trust's "Justice for Dalton" campaign.

While we appreciate the media attention that is bringing awareness to the plight of animals, it is crucial to clarify our objectives. Our mission is not to seek a constitutional amendment (of the Constitution of the Republic of Namibia). Nor are we trying to institute a constitutional ban on dog meat or equate the life of a dog with that of a human.

Our goal is to advocate for legal recognition of animals, specifically dogs in this campaign, as sentient beings. This recognition will ensure that animals' interests are considered in our legal framework, paving the way for more humane treatment across the board. This is not about privileging one species over another but seeking to extend empathy and protection to all animals.

While we recognize that cultural practices and personal values significantly differ, we believe in fostering an environment where all animals are treated with dignity, respect, and understanding. We encourage everyone to join this vital conversation on animal welfare.

For the sake of accuracy and to avoid misunderstandings, we kindly request that all future reporting reflects the objectives of the campaign accurately. We are happy to provide further information or answer any questions to aid in that regard. The Justice for Animals Trust extends our heartfelt thanks to all those who have shown their support for this cause and continue to promote the welfare of animals in Namibia.

Yours in animal welfare,
