"If you can spare two hours of your life, you can spare a dog a lifetime of misery." At 6 PM, on Monday, May 22nd at the James Page Government Center in Yulee, Florida commissioners are scheduled to vote on a proposed unattended tethering ordinance. We need concerned citizens to come to that meeting and let commissioners know that we are not going to stand for an ineffective ordinance that will keep dogs on tethers. The flaws (loopholes) in the proposed Nassau County animal ordinance are as follows: It allows unattended tethering for up to 12 hours in a 24-hour period. It allows unattended tethering if the dog is in "visual range" of a responsible person(?) who is NOT outside the dog. It allows unattended tethering on working farms. It only applies to dogs. The word "dog" needs to be replaced with "animal." The unattended tethering movement is gathering momentum, but we need your help. Please come to the meeting and help convince County Commissioners that the proposed ordinance is flawed and that it needs to be changed. The meeting starts at 6 PM and will last about two hours. If you don't want to speak, that is fine. All we ask is that you wear an article of RED clothing to show that you support a NO unattended tethering ordinance without exception. If you can’t be there the entire time, you can arrive late and leave early. If you don't live near Nassau County, please forward this letter to someone who can attend the meeting. Next Monday night we need to make the Commissioners see RED!
