Good evening - On Monday, May 8, 2017 at a County Commissioners meeting an addendum to the Nassau County ordinance was introduced that attempts to limit unattended dog tethering in Nassau County, Florida. To watch the meeting go here: http://www.nassauclerk.com/default.cfm?pid=bocc Commissioners decided to hear more public comment on this matter and vote on May 22, 2017. The meeting will at 6:00 PM at the James Page governmental complex in Yulee, FL. In it's present form the ordinance allows unattended dog tethering for an indefinite period if the dog is within visual range of he owner or a responsible person. The dog may be left unattended for 12 hours in a 24 hour period. Dogs be tethered indefinitely on working farms. If this language is not removed the ordinance will impossible to enforce and dogs will remain on chains. The commissions heard from both sides. If you want this language removed, here is what you need to do: Tell all your friends and get them to the meeting on May 22nd. Contact the commissioners and let them know how you feel. Be sure to give them your name and where you live. Come to the meeting and make a brief public statement. You have three minutes. Wear a RED shirt to show your support. Even if you don't speak, please come to the meeting a wear your red shirt. It shows that you care. If adopted Nassau County will be the smallest county (by population) of any county in Florida to prohibit unattended tethering. We will be viewed as a leader in animal welfare by every small county in Florida and throughout the country. If you can't attend the meeting, here is the contact information for the commissioners.
