End cruel sea lion shows and small enclosures at Connyland, Switzerland
Das Problem
I am raising this petition to demand the immediate end of marine animal shows at Connyland amusement park in Switzerland. The park keeps Sea lions in tiny tanks, forces them into unnatural behaviors for “breakfast with sea lions” and “trainer programmes”, and offers swimming and photo ops with them — all while misleading the public about the welfare of these intelligent, social animals.
Why this matters:
- Sea lions in the wild swim hundreds of kilometers annually, form complex social structures, and require ample space and stimuli. In Connyland they swim in circles in shallow tanks, deprived of natural movement and enrichment.
- Programs like breakfast with sea lions, swimming or join‐a‐trainer encourage commodification of living beings for entertainment.
- Children grow up believing this is normal — despite modern standards rejecting wild animal performances and constrained captivity.
We ask Connyland and authorities to:
- End all sea lion shows, swim or photo interactions, and “trainer” programmes.
- Provide transparent documentation of the sea lions’ origin, veterinary records, transport history, and their relocation plan.
-
Phase out keeping wild marine mammals and transition to observing local wildlife or digital exhibits.
-
Commit to sanctuary partnerships, in line with EU/Swiss animal welfare norms.
Signatures will be addressed to:
Connyland Management
Swiss Federal Office for Food Safety and Veterinary Affairs (BLV)
Veterinary Office of Canton Thurgau
