End Cruel Donkey Rides in the UK!

The Issue

As an animal lover and advocate for their welfare, I am deeply concerned about the continued use of donkeys for rides throughout the United Kingdom. This petition aims to bring attention to this outdated and cruel practice, urging authorities to take immediate action to protect these gentle creatures from unnecessary suffering.

Donkeys used for rides are often forced into unnatural environments such as busy tourist attractions or crowded beaches. These settings expose them to excessive noise, pollution, and stressful situations that can have severe consequences on their physical and mental well-being.

Furthermore, many donkey ride operators lack proper knowledge or training in animal care. Inadequate supervision may lead to overworking these animals without providing adequate rest or access to water. The weight of riders can cause long-term damage by straining their backs and joints, leading to chronic pain or even permanent injuries.

Accordingly, it is crucial that we address this issue promptly by implementing a ban on donkey rides across the UK. By doing so, we will not only protect these innocent beings from harm but also send a clear message that animal cruelty has no place in our society.

To support our cause with factual evidence:

1) A study conducted by Animal Aid revealed that 40% of inspected UK beach resorts failed basic welfare checks for working equines.
2) The Donkey Sanctuary reported cases of heat exhaustion among working donkeys due to prolonged exposure under scorching sun during summer months.
3) Research published in the Journal of Veterinary Behavior highlighted how captive environments can lead to stress-related behaviors and compromised welfare in donkeys.

Despite these findings and documented warnings from the RSPCA to Donkey Ride Managers/Owners, donkeys are continued to be exploited, worked in adverse weathers, strange children carried upon their backs who kick and scream during their rides.

The donkeys travel in a non regulated transport to and from the attraction, with no air conditioning, no water and huddled together free standing in what often is just a small lorry.

Donkeys are apparently rested with days off, and although there's is no evidence to show this happens, surely this is irrelevant. Donkeys being worked to the point they need to rest is barbaric.

Whete are we witnessing any firm of animal welfare when we see donkeys on beaches, busy attractions, tied up and relentlessly made to carry strangers/children upon their backs all day long? Often no shade, very little water and most importantly no choice!

This has to stop. Over 110,000 people signed a petition to stop this barbaric use of donkeys in 2017 but the petition was rejected stating that this is a tradition and Donkeys were being treated in accordance with animal welfare regulations. Absolutely disgraceful.

Let's not give up!

It is time for us to take a stand against the exploitation of donkeys for entertainment purposes. Together, we can make a difference by urging local authorities, tourist destinations, and event organizers to prioritize animal welfare and replace these outdated practices with more compassionate alternatives.

Sign this petition today to demand an end to donkey rides throughout the UK! Let's ensure that these remarkable animals are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.
