End bullying and abuse in our school district
End bullying and abuse in our school district
The Issue
Throughout my entire time in this school district, (Lamar Consolidated Isd, LCISD) I have been subjected to relentless bullying, harassment, and abuse, both physical and mental. Every day, I face derogatory slurs, inappropriate questions, and emotional torment at the hands of aggressors.
This issue is not unique to me; many other students in the school district are enduring similar treatment. The environment that has been allowed to flourish is toxic and dangerous, fostering fear and anxiety among students rather than a safe space for learning and personal growth.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, around 20% of students aged 12-18 experienced bullying nationwide in 2019. Such statistics are alarming and demand immediate action to foster a safer and healthier environment for all students.
Our school district has a responsibility to ensure the well-being of every student within its care. Effective measures must be implemented to prevent bullying and abuse. This can include anti-bullying programs, counseling services, and stricter enforcement of policies against harassment. Staff should receive comprehensive training to handle these situations appropriately and support affected students.
Moreover, students and parents must have access to a clear and anonymous reporting system to ensure incidents of bullying and abuse are reported and addressed promptly and effectively.
Our school district should be a place where students feel safe and supported, not a battleground of humiliation and harm. We need change now to protect current and future students from the pain that many of us have already endured.
Please join me in urging the school district to take immediate action and implement good strategies to end the harrassment happening in our schools. Sign this petition to make our schools safe for every child.
