Current Situation (2025):

The Church of Scientology’s Australian entity COSRECI is still a registered charity, despite being exposed in 2010 for failing to file financial returns for over 30 years. In 2015, the ACNC confirmed it had the power to investigate—but no outcome was ever made public. In 2021, federal MPs Andrew Leigh and Nick McKim again called for an investigation after media reports showed COSRECI was receiving tens of millions from overseas. Today, COSRECI continues to operate with full charity status, despite serious questions about its purpose and benefit to Australians. No penalties. No transparency. No accountability.

What needs to happen:

We’re calling on the ACNC to publicly investigate COSRECI’s full financial history, issue appropriate penalties for past non-compliance, and deregister it if it does not serve the Australian public. Regulators must stop ignoring known loopholes — and Australians deserve to know our charity laws aren’t being exploited to benefit foreign operations.
